- The International Open Source Network (IOSN), InWEnt-Capacity Building International of Germany and University of the Philippines (UP) Manila are hosting a workshop on Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) for Small and Medium Enterprises in the IT industry.

Linux System Administrator Training of Trainers, Quezon City, Philippines, 9 – 21 October 2006
- A major barrier against adoption and deployment of free and open source software (FOSS) in developing countries is the lack of human resources with FOSS skills. This introductory programme aims to address the problem by training trainers so that they can train others in their countries, and therefore kick-start a self-sustaining development of FOSS human resources. This course introduces Linux trainers to training with open content Linux system administration training materials and low-cost LPI certification examinations.

Regional Workshop on Asia-Pacific E-Government Initiatives, Bangkok, Thailand, 24-25 April 2006
- As part of the project entitled "Capacity Building of Asia Pacific e-Government Initiatives," APDIP, UNDP's Asia Regional Governance Programme and the United Nation Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD) jointly organized a regional workshop in Bangkok, Thailand on 24-25 April 2006 to review and disuss 20 case studies from 12 different Asia-Pacific countries. This workshop was held back-to-back with egov Asia 2006, the Asian e-government conference, and at the same venue in Rama Gardens Hotel and Resort in Bangkok.

New Open Source Centres of Excellence
- In order to address the growing information and technological needs of the Asia and Pacific region, the International Open Source Network (IOSN) has established three new Centres of Excellence – IOSN ASEAN+3, IOSN PIC (Pacific Island Countries), and IOSN South Asia. Together, these Centres will continue the research and development, networking, institutional strengthening, and training undertaken by IOSN over the last three years to advance the adoption of free/open source software, open standards, and open content across the region.

Television Productions on HIV/AIDS From 11 Countries Available Rights-Free
- Completed productions of "Think Positive: The Asian Face of HIV/AIDS" are available for exchange between the participating broadcasters as well as being made available rights-free to all Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) members and other broadcasters.

CHITS - A Finalist in the Stockholm Challenge 2006
- The project on Community Health Information Tracking System (CHITS) in the Philippines, initiated as an ICT R&D Grants Programme, is this year's finalist in the Stockholm Challenge under the "Health" category. CHITS was carried out to improve health care delivery in the public health sector through the development of a computer-based information system for community health centers using open source software and local capacity building.

- The new and updated edition of the Digital Review of Asia Pacific contains authoritative reports on how 29 economies/countries are using ICT in business, government and civil society written by senior authors who live and work in the region. Included are three subregional chapters on the Pacific Island States, ASEAN and APEC.

- Grant awarded in March 2005 to SynapseHealth Solutions, Inc. to transmit realtime diagnosis and treatment data from the community health worker to a remote physician.

- Linux training and certification of trainers and proctors in HoChiMinh City, Vietnam in conjuction with Linux Professional Institute (LPI), Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology (Vietnamese Management Board on Open Source Software), IT Projects HoChiMinh City and Pronet - Vietnam National University.

- This bi-annual review provides facts, figures, data and analysis of the state-of-the-art of ICT and Internet diffusion, adoption and application in 25 Asia-Pacific countries. It serves as a one-stop reference source on the state-of-practice and future trends in ICTs for development and ICTs for industry for policy- and decision-makers, technology practitioners and experts, researchers, and educators in the region.

- Grant awarded in October 2003 to Galing Pook Foundation, Inc. to test an ICT-mediated mechanism for knowledge sharing among local government units.

- Grant awarded in October 2003 to Medical Informatics Unit, College of Medicine, University of the Philippines to improve injury prevention programmes for children by having a good injury registry. A finalist of the Stockholm Challenge 2006.
