Project Description
The university offers a number of courses ranging from the conventional to inter-disciplinary fields like Disaster Management, Consumer Protection etc. It has established a network of centres to provide access to learners in even the most remote areas.

Project Objectives
The main aim of IGNOU is to provide a larger number of people access to quality education at low costs.

Intended Beneficiaries
Anyone interested in pursuing higher education is a beneficiary of this program, which offers almost eight hundred and fifty courses of study. Their distance learning program enables those in remote corners of the country to acquire quality education.

Ministry of Human Resources Development, University.

Impact: Costs and Benefits
The university has extended its reach to Asia and Africa as well. The academic programs of the University have multiple-media support and facilities for audio and video. IGNOU has also started educational programs like Gyan Vani and Gyan Darshan.

Constraints/Challenges
Maintaining field infrastructure, addressing content and local language issues.

Sustainability Factors
It is a sustainable project and has been in existence since 1985.

Recommendations
IGNOU has been a highly successful project, it has grown from the era when communication facilities were not reliable. Several Asian countries can follow the same model.
