ICTD Case Studies - e-Governance/e-Government
The project undertaken by the government of Andhra Pradesh and was one of the major IT projects undertaken in the state in 1998.
Requiring an original outlay of about three million U.S. dollars, it was funded entirely by the Andhra Pradesh government.
It was started with the objective of simplifying the registration system and making it transparent, reliable and efficient. It eliminated the manual accounting system and indexing and introduced electronic document writing. Certain secondary objectives like catering to different user groups and user-friendliness were also kept in mind.
This project has succeeded in bringing transparency to the system of valuation and introducing an efficient management system. The time taken in the processing of various documents and certificates has been reduced considerably.
In order to provide long term sustainability a transaction based fee structure in return for various services has been proposed.
