The Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) in collaboration with APDIP and other international organizations organized the Asia Media Summit (AMS) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 9 to 11 May 2005.

The Summit provided a unique opportunity for broadcasters around the region and the globe to share their thoughts on Information and Broadcasting. An estimated 400 delegates from 65 countries and 187 organizations participated.

The AMS is officially recognized as a platform for broadcasters to put forth their recommendations to the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in Tunis in November 2005 as it is registered as a preparatory Regional Thematic Meeting. The delegates of AMS have endorsed a set of recommendations.

At the Summit APDIP and AIBD organised two thematic workshops – HIV/AIDs and Gender - for senior policy makers and management from broadcasting agencies. The workshops explore broadcasters’ roles in HIV/AIDS prevention and control and ways in which broadcasters can promote gender awareness and equity, respectively.
