UNDP-APDIP held a parallel session at the 30th APEC TEL Working Group meeting in Singapore to engage stakeholders in an open dialogue on the merits, scope, framework, and activities to push forward the Asia-Pacific perspective as deliberations are taking place at global platforms such as the World Summit of Information Society and the United Nations Working Group on Internet Governance.
Objectives
  • introduce the Open Regional Dialogue on Internet Governance initiative;
  • collect comments and input into the ORDIG initiative and advisory panel; specifically on the framework, scope, activities, and expected outputs
  • garner input and recommendations from stakeholders on issues relating to Internet Governance and public policies.

    Programme

    • Welcome and introductory presentation on the Open Regional Dialogue on Internet Governance initiative (UNDP-APDIP)
    An introduction to the UNDP-APDIP Open Regional Dialogue on Interent Governance initiative - the framework and goals, the scope and methodology, expected outputs, and initial findings/recommendations from UNDP-APDIP's first consultation in KL (Aug 2004)
    • Keynotes by Panellist (Harry SK Tan, James Seng, Steven Ang)
    A sampling of specific Internet Governance issues  - what are the lessons learned; effective policies and pitfalls; and pressing issues particularly pertaining to security and cyber-crimes, international domain names, and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)

    • Open Discussion (chaired by UNDP-APDIP)

    The floor will be open for questions and comments relating to the any points made during the keynotes/presentations and any recommendations for UNDP-APDIP relating to the Open Regional Dialogue on Internet Governance initiative.
