Regional Workshop on Asia-Pacific E-Government Initiatives, Bangkok, Thailand, 24-25 April 2006
The regional workshop was held on 24-25 April 2006 to share and review experiences and initiatives on local e-government in the Asia-Pacific region and discuss the problems/barriers in implementing e-government, making efforts more participatory, and including the needs and the voice of the weakest groups.
The agenda incorporated discussions on means to increase participatory planning and human development and security in current e-government initiatives. The workshop also identified policy recommendations to bring an explicit human development and security orientation to e-Government, as well as identified a capacity building agenda that includes knowledge sharing and exchange of experiences.
20 e-government case studies from 12 countries in the Asia-Pacific region, including Cambodia, China, Fiji, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mongolia, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka and Thailand, was reviewed during the workshop.
The project aims to bridge the knowledge gap on e-government issues among government and non-government decision makers by documenting innovative strategies and good practices, and sharing lessons learned.
