APDIP and the UNDP Asia-Pacific Gender Mainstreaming Programme hosted a one-day workshop titled “Mapping Gender in the Information Society: From Reality to Discourse”. The event was held on 31 October 2005 at the Menam Riverside Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand.

The event focused on gender in the information society, connecting it to the broader debates on global policy negotiations and global governance and how gender plays out in these debates. The workshop took stock of the complex relationship between gender and ICTs, learning from experiences in different parts of the Asia Pacific. It also critically evaluated how global forums such as the World Summit on the Information Society have framed issues related to gender and ICTs. The workshop created a space for wider participation of women in debates centered on the information society.

The workshop was organized in collaboration with the WSIS Gender Caucus, IT for Change, International Development Research Centre of Canada and UNIFEM South Asia.
