Winners of the ICT R&D Grants Programme March 2005 Competition Round Announced

An international committee comprised of 11 experts selected nine winners from eight different Asia-Pacific countries. The proposals covered a wide range of topics, sectors, and issues.

The Information Communication Technology Research and Development (ICT R&D) Grants are for projects that find innovative ways to use ICT applications for sustainable development in Asia-Pacific countries or at the regional level. Practical and replicable solutions are emphasized.

 

This round of competition attracted 83 proposals. An international committee comprised of 11 experts selected nine winners from eight different Asia-Pacific countries. The proposals covered a wide range of topics, sectors, and issues, including agriculture, capacity building, disability, disaster risk management, education and training, gender, geographic information system, health, media and mobile learning.

 

The following proposals received the ICT R&D Grant this year:

 

1. Effects of ICTs on Media Transformation, Education and Training in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia

2. Mongolian Text to Speech Conversion Tool

InfoCon Co., Ltd.

 

3. M-DOK: Mobile Telehealth and Information Resource System for Community Health Workers in the Philippines

SynapseHealth Solutions, Inc.

 

4. Community GIS, India

Collective Research Initiatives Trust

 

5. Piloting Mobile ICT Access Models, Sri Lanka

Kothmale Community Radio Station Radio Listeners Group

 

6. Development of ICT-Based Mobile Telemedicine System with Multi Communication Links for Urban and Rural Areas in Indonesia

Biomedical Engineering Programme, Department of Electrical Engineering, Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB)

 

7. Policy, Praxis and the Public Interest: Engendering a Strategic InfoComms Policy Research Programme in the Philippines

Foundation for Media Alternatives 

 

8. Crop Disease Forecasting System and Expert Crop-Advisory to Farmers over Information Kiosk Networks in India
