Document Actions
APDIP helped organize a session on Internet Governance for the UNESCAP Sub-regional Conference on ICT for Development in Pacific Island Developing Countries.
Document Actions

Invited speakers covered a wide range of Internet policy issues, reporting on their work with IP numbering systems, local language software customization and security issues and also reflected more generally on challenges for effective participation in national ICT policy-making and the WSIS process. APDIP briefed the more than eighty participants from Pacific Island Country Governments, ESCAP, ITU, the University of the South Pacific and other organizations working on ICT issues in the region on the opportunities that ORDIG provides for more effective information sharing on Internet governance. Participants were invited to actively contribute to building the ORDIG web portal, partake in upcoming discussions on ICT policy priorities and help APDIP roll-out its Internet governance survey in Pacific Island Countries. The symposium culminated in the adoption of a Regional Plan of Action that reaffirms the importance of more consultations and research on Internet governance issues and calls upon UNESCAP and UNDP-APDIP to continue their efforts in this area.

More:
> Regional Plan of Action (with recognition of APDIP's Internet governance activities in sections 16, 21 and 26)

> Symposium Outcomes (with request to APDIP to undertake more work in the Internet governance area in section 10)
