ICT4D Awareness Creation Event for the UNDP Regional Centre Colombo and UNDP Sri Lanka Office Staff, 18 January 2006
This two hour knowledge sharing event included presentations in the areas of information society, e-government, e-laws and telecentre management.
ICT Agency programme directors and managers spoke about each of these areas with live examples from their initiatives in Sri Lanka.
Mr. Manju Hathotuwa, CEO, ICT Agency presented the e-Sri Lanka programme and explained the model e-Sri Lanka is working on. Ms. Chitranganie Mubarak, Programme Manager, e-Society, ICT Agency, demonstrated the ICT4D initiatives ICT Agency has undertaken with the partnership of civil society and community organizations. She discussed about the e-village projects in Mahavilachchciya and Kaduruwela with the Nanesala telecentres projects.
The participants were also provided information about the ongoing mesh networking project – which is supported by UNDP-APDIP under the ICT R&D grants scheme. The other Presenters were Mr. Wasantha Deshapriya, Director e-Government, Mr. Jayantha Fernando, Legal Advisor and Ms. Dil Piyaratne, Programme Manager, ICT Agency.
The participants also watched the Communicating for Change video produced by APDIP on ICT for development efforts.
