Mr. Kanan is currently seconded to Multimedia Development Corporation from the Malaysian Administrative and Diplomatic Service. He is responsible for development of the physical, information technology and cyberlaw infrastructure for the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) and implementation of MSC flagships applications, covering electronic government, smart schools, telemedicine and multi-purpose card.

His previous civil service position was as the Deputy Secretary General, Ministry Primary Industries, Malaysia.

Mr. Kanan holds an MBA from Cornell University (1980) and a Bachelor of Economics (Hons) from University of Malaya (1971).
