Africa-Asia Workshop, 25-29 March 2002
Many women in Malaysia, have their obligations at home come prior to a professional career. In stead of opting for a job or a career, they concentrate on taking care of their homes, children, relatives etc. Though many of these women are interested in working professionally they will remain largely unaware of a third option - working from home.
Addressing this challenge is Mother for Mother, a private selfhelp initiative that was established to promote working from home as an option for women. Mother for Mother link-up women from all over Malaysia in an e-community that is bound together by common interests in motherhood, homemaking and in issues such as economy, social and gender development.
The purpose of the community is to improve the social and economic prospects, not only for mothers but for all women, especially those who are disadvantaged, such as the abused, handicapped, ill or widowed. Mother for Mother aim at any women with interest in homemaking, be it an allready established e-business women or the village women, looking for an extra market to sell her crafts.
Through their web site, their seminars and workshops, Mother for Mother attempt to address both those women, who know about computer and Internet and those who do not.Teleworking women can not only generating extra income for their families, they can also increase their own importance in the family and their status in society as a whole.
