4) e-Government Readiness Assessment Methodology
This UNDESA has prepared a draft e-Government Readiness Assessment Methodology that offers a menu of complementary surveys which measure aspects of e-government readiness from the perspective of central government, government agencies/departments and broader society. 6) Central American Task Force for e-Government
During August 14-15, Honduras hosted the first meeting of the recently established Central American Task Force for e-Government. The Task Force was officially created by Resolution No. 2-2003 of the XXXIV Meeting of Central American Vice-Presidents, held on February 28, 2003, in San José, Costa Rica. The Central American Integration System (SICA) is organized, such that there are periodic Presidential Summits and regional meetings of the countries' Vice-Presidents, as well as several Ministerial-level groups. 7) ICT for Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers (PRSPs) as of August 2003
At the Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and the IMF in September 1999, it was agreed that nationally-owned participatory poverty reduction strategies should provide the basis of all World Bank and IMF concessional lending and for debt relief under the enhanced Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) Initiative. This approach is being reflected in the development of Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers (PRSPs) by country authorities, building on the principles of the Comprehensive Development Framework. PRSPs provide the basis for assistance from the World Bank and the IMF as well as debt relief under HIPC initiative. 8) Examples of ICT in National Development Plan as of August 2003
The attached table indicates if and how ICT feature in a selection of country national development plans. This table is the updated version of the document produced in February 2003. . 10) A Country Paper on Development of E-services in Nepal
E-services in Nepal have definitely come a long way and taken a leap since the author's survey, as from 3 ISPs in 1998 there are 18 currently. Government policies and institutional set-ups have come forth. And further leap is expected when the ongoing Nepali font standardization initiative is successful. 16) Investment and Technology Policies for Competitiveness: Review of Successful Country Experiences
This paper addresses the role of foreign direct investment (FDI) in technology transfer and learning, particularly by Transnational Corporations (TNCs). It highlights the important role that TNCs can play in the transfer of technology, but emphasizes that the latter should be maximized and complemented by appropriate country policies.
