Document Actions

Date

12-14 February 2004

Duration

3 days

Venue

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Organizer

UNDP's Asia-Pacific Development Information Programme

Objectives

Following from the four main themes, the specific objectives of the workshop are:

(1)

To facilitate networking so that participants may share experiences, best practices, and lessons learned in assisting their respective governments with ICT for development initiatives and policy/strategy formulation. The workshop aims to provide UNDP Country Office ICT POs with expert support and advice from regional resource persons on the processes and approaches.

(2)

To raise awareness on the trends and topical issues relating to ICT development and ICT for development, by providing overviews on such topics as Free/Open Source Software (FOSS), wireless connectivity, and other new, innovative and low-cost technologies.

(3)

To open discussions on, and develop mechanisms for effective co-ordination and communication between UNDP COs in Asia-Pacific, and regional UNDP support - given the restructuring of regional programmes, and the new status of ICT for Development in UNDP.

Participatory Approach

APDIP will facilitate a participatory process whereby participants will be responsible for fine tuning the workshop and the proposed agenda. Indeed, the themes, objectives, and agenda of the workshop are all tentative, pending dialogue and consensus from the participants themselves. It is our hope the programme officers will contribute greatly in developing the workshop and that they have as much ownership in the workshop as possible.

As mentioned, the agenda for the workshop is not fixed; APDIP will facilitate and encourage participants to develop the agenda to suit their needs and to address relevant issues facing ICT Programme Officers.
