Themes
To assist UNDP Country Office programme officers in Asia-Pacific in meeting the challenges, APDIP is proposing that the workshop address issues along the following themes:
|
· |
Global and regional UNDP corporate ICT strategies, and the UNDP Country Office realities in developing and implementing ICT for development initiatives; programme development for ICT for Development work remains a challenge for many country offices; |
|
· |
Trends and topical issues relating to ICT development and ICT for development; this workshop shall focus on innovations, such as Free/Open Source Software (FOSS), wireless connectivity, and low-cost technologies for access; |
|
· |
Global Issues and approaches to e-Policy and e-Strategy development; many country offices are undertaking, or wish to undertake, national ICT policy and strategy development; UNDP-APDIP itself has contributed to policy formulation processes, including the recent Asian Forum on ICT Policies and e-Strategies in Kuala Lumpur; |
|
· |
Impacts and changes at the country office, regional, and bureau levels, given ICT for Development is no longer an official UNDP practice area; and the upcoming restructuring exercise for all regional programmes and its impact on regional support for ICT for Development. |
The Asia-Pacific Context
All themes, topics, issues, and discussions will be focused on the Asia-Pacific context. In discussing ICT for development, participants and resource persons will be required to focus on topical issues relevant to countries in Asia-Pacific, UNDP Country Offices in Asia-Pacific, and UNDP constituencies in Asia-Pacific. Of course, this does not mean that there will be no mention of ICT for development in other regions of the world, as long as the dialogue maintains a connection to ICT for development in the Asia-Pacific context.
