Abstract of Project
The ICT-assisted Economic Empowerment - Integrated Tools Development project is targeted at Disadvantaged women - Women who, due to disabilities and other circumstances, are confined to their homes and as a result economically and emotionally constrained. The initial beneficiaries of this project component will be 50 women who will be short listed from a core group of 200 women participants. The main problem affecting the women is financial constraints because of the constraints they face in finding employment or home business opportunities due to their immobility. This is what the project seeks to address.

The project explores the possibility of developing an integrated system of ICT tools, i.e. computer - Internet, telephone - SMS, facsimile and similar modes, to free the women from the confines of their homes. Through utilization of tools already available to them, or supplied through this project, the women will be able to source and provide their products and services to the external market. Through this mode a series of outcomes is envisaged at different levels. Firstly, in terms of technology, the feasibility, adaptability and effectiveness of using a combination of ICT tools as opposed to over-dependence on one mode i.e. the Internet, which may not be appropriate for everyone. Secondly, a core group of economically empowered women who will be pioneers and role model for others in similar circumstances. Thirdly but definitely not last, exposing the Malaysian corporate sector to the usage of decentralized skills and talents.
