Citizen Information Service Centre in Mongolia
The spread of information in the scarcely populated country of Mongolia is limited by distance and the coomuncation infrastructure. Even after the transition from a system characterised by top-down planning to one with top-down-bottom-up information flow, few means exists to disseminate crucial information.
The infrastructure is underdeveloped, especially between the centre, the capital Ulanbaatar, and the periphery. To improve information flow, APDIP set-up the Citizen Information service Center (CISCs) equipped with computer-workstations, printer and a small library with reference material. Uniquely, the services of the CISCs are free. They also serve as training centres, where visitors can learn basic computer skills and get help taking their first steps in the Internet world.
This project was completed in 1999.
