e-Justice Project
- e-Justice is a citizen-centric approach for providing access to justice through ICT. The goal of this project is to facilitate access to justice through legal awareness and greater interaction between the actors involved in the justice delivery system and the litigant or any person who has a legal query. It will also put together a framework which is interactive and user friendly using the available machinery and involving both governmental and non-state actors.

Improving Citizen's Access to Information
- This project was created to promote a more open regime with freer access to information. It aims to empower citizens, make administration more participatory, ensure greater transparency, and deter the arbitrary exercise of official power. This is to be achieved through sensitizing, re-orientation and capacity building of government officials; increasing the awareness of citizens, and building their capacity to make reasonable demands for information. To support this goal, six separate locations were chosen for piloting ICT-based Access to Information initiatives.

Convergence of Services: A systematic approach to planning for district development
- In order to ensure coordinated planning, an initiative, "Convergence of Services: A systematic approach to planning for district development" was undertaken in Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh. The initiative focuses on the development of a software for convergence of services. The software allows hands-on-planning at the district level and below to develop a comprehensive programme for district development. The software developed for selected districts under the proejct could serve as a model for other districts of the country. The project is likely to have reaching impacts in the terms of increased transparency and accountability of planners and managers, and need-based implementation of poverty alleviation programmes.

Strengthening of Services Deliveries through Knowledge Centres for realization of Mission 2007-"Every Village a Knowledge Centre"
- ICT for Development has been one of the core areas of UNDP’s focus in Orissa. The network of ICT kiosks set-up during various project executions is testimony to the efforts of UNDP Orissa in broad basing and cross cutting ICTs in development sphere. UNDP has established 73 ICT kiosks in 12 districts of Orissa with the partnership of the Government, NGOs, CBOs, and Youth Clubs. Out of these, currently around 40 ICT Kiosks are having citizen access interface, which are manned by one IT Volunteer at each kiosk. Evolution to Knowledge Centres (KC) was a natural progression to these Kiosks.

Chhattisgarh Online Information for Citizen Empowerment (CHOiCE) Project
- This project deals with online disbursement of Government services to the citizens and it is one of the most comprehensive solution covering 130 services which include issuance of certificates, electronic payment, information on schemes, MIS etc. The project uses state of the art technology with digital signatures and biometric security devices. CHOiCE is presently being operated in Raipur and would be rolled out in the remaining districts of the State.

Natural Resources Data Management System (NRDMS)
- The objectives of the project were to: develop spatial data management tools for district planning; demonstrate the applicability of the tools in two district of Bankura in West Bengal and Kolar in Karnataka for water resource management, land use planning, energy management and infrastructure development; strengthen institutional back-up through training programmes and technology transfer.

Community Radio Handbook and Website
- VOICES, in collaboration with UNDP, has brought out a resource guide on community radio, entitled "Community Radio in India: Step by Step". The book includes information on community audio practices in India, legal guidelined, technology issues, sustainability issues, field experiences etc. Material from the book as well as other material about community radio in South Asia is also available at the website www.communityradionetwork.org, which VOICES maintains, in collaboration with UNDP and Mahithi.

Gujarat Disaster Risk Management Programme
- The UNDP Gujarat office came into being in the immediate aftermath of the devastating earthquake of January 26th 2001. During the transition from relief to recovery it extended it technical and financial support for various livelihood, temporary shelter and ICT-related programmes.

ICT for Development
- This programme is expected in the long run to be a multi-phased programme of support to the national initiatives on e-governance through determining a comprehensive roadmap for the National E-Governance Plan, demonstrating sustainable initiatives, supporting public private partnerships, developing open source solutions and applications, documenting and disseminating lessons learnt and for National Institute for Smart Government (project partner) to become a knowledge hub that could provide advice and harvest lessons for wider replication.

Capacity Building for Access to Information
- The project aims to enhance the capacities of government officials as information providers, citizens as information seekers, and a range of actors to facilitate the sharing of information. The project aims to strengthen and institutionalize mechanisms for improved government-citizen interface, and pave the way for the operationalization of Right to Information by means of consultative processes for consensus building, and through documentation, research and advocacy efforts.

ICT-Focused National Human Development Report
- UNDP in collaboration with NASSCOM produced a "National Human Development Report – Promoting ICT for Human Development in Asia: Realising the Millennium Development Goals - India." This country report reviews and assesses progress made in India in drafting and implementing its national e-policies and e-strategies towards meeting its national development goals and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). This is part of a regional initiative to systematically assess the role and impact of ICT on human development in Asia using the MDGs as the framework for assessment.

Creation of Community Information Centres with the State Government of Uttaranchal
- UNDP India is supporting the development of Community Information Centres (CICs) in Uttaranchal (a hilly state in Western India). The CICs are intended to provide information and services in a manner that is easy, effective, inexpensive, less time consuming, reliable and efficient so that the interface between the government and citizen is improved. The programme also intends to minimize subjectivity in government working, decisions and processes.

Support to Rural Development Using Community Radio
- As part of a wider rural development programme, UNDP supported a radio initiative ('Kunjal Panje Kutchji') to raise awareness and participation in rural development issues in the western part of India.

Legal Awareness through Community Radio
- The purpose of the project is to use the medium of community radio to create legal awareness among marginalised communities; to help provide communities an alternate forum of dispute resolution; to sensitise communities on human rights issues; to initiate research and advocacy on legal regime for mass media; and to help empower marginalised sections of society by providing legal aid services.

National Disaster Risk Management Programme
- The GOI-UNDP National Disaster Risk Management Programme (NDRM) aims to reduce vulnerabilities of communities at risk to sudden disasters in 169 of the most multi-hazard prone districts spread over 17 most multi-hazard prone States of India (Gujarat, Orissa, Bihar, Tamilnadu, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim and five north-eastern states). One of the components of the programme focuses on Urban Earthquake Vulnerability Reduction. It would also develop a web-based portal (India Disaster Resource Network) to facilitate systematic inventorization of the resources available for emergency operations at the district, state and national levels.
