Strengthening Access to Infromation and Civic Engagement through Community Information Centers (CICs)
-
The projects aims to strengthen demand for information and improve access to information for rural communities, including vulnerable groups, through the effective use of existing CICs hosted by local NGOs. To achieve these objectives, the initiative undertook a situational analysis and awareness raising on the access to information and civic engagement in selected provinces in Cambodia, and develop and pilot test an enhanced effective model/strategy for community outreach using ICT.

Capacity Development of NIDA

Capacity Development: Formulation of a comprehensive medium term UNDP programme in support of ICT for development, including capacity development of the National Information Communications Technology Development Authority (NIDA).

Cisco Networking Academy

The Cisco Networking Academy Programme (CNAP) was launched in 2002 in Cambodia followed by its global launch in 2000 at the Okinawa Summit. The programme offers IT skill development courses, including networking, IT essentials, etc. The courses are designed to prepare for industry standard certifications including the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA).

E-Trade Bridge Strategy

Development of a national vision on e-trade: Initiation of the development of a national vision on e-trade aiming at turning broad e-trade policy statements into concrete action points to create awareness of and stimulate demand for the services of e-trade facilitators.

Digital Divide Data Cambodia

UNDP supported a local NGO, Digital Divide Data (DDD) Cambodia, to provide new work opportunities for the disadvantaged outside the capital of Phnom Penh. DDD provided outsourcing services in data entry and digitalization from a centre in Battambang which employs over 20 people, including the disabled and women with trafficking experience. The project serves as a model for how new employment and income generation opportunities may be generated from ICT.

Donation of Second-Hand Computers from South Korean

UNDP has facilitated the donation of 135 second-hand computers, most just a few years old, from four South Korean companies through UNDP office in the Republic of Korea and Cambodia. Donated computers were distributed to national partner institutions supported by UNDP programmes, such as National Assembly, Royal School of Judges and Prosecutors and the Provincial Courts, Ministry of Interior, and Ministry of Women’s and Veterans’ Affairs.

Open Source Software Localization Toolkit

This project aims to develop a plain-language Toolkit that will allow Asia-Pacific countries (that do not have computer systems in their own language) to develop localization projects without the need of specialized help. The Toolkit consists of a Manual and a CD. The Manual includes a series of "How-To" sub-manuals comprehensive to localizers: from management issues to the most technical parts, including installation of translation tools, etc. The Toolkit is being developed in parallel with the Khmer (Cambodia) localization project.
