Provincial Capacity Building Project
The purpose of the Provincial Capacity Building Project (PCaB Project) is to assist the Government of Papua New Guinea to further develop an integrated approach to strengthen financial management at the national and provincial level based on the lessons learned of previous interventions and new pilot approaches to be tested within the intermediate assistance phase. Of the many initiatives, ICT components include developing capacity for efficient use of ICT at the provincial level.
Replication of People First Network (PFnet) to Bougainville
The project will work on two levels. Downstream (focus area): Provide rural communities with affordable communication opportunities (radio email to effectively improve their livelihoods. Upstream: Actively stimulate ICT policy work through in-country technical ICT experience and presence together with increased awareness on the usage of ICT’s and its application for national development. This project is implemented by national NGOs, UNDP Fiji Multi-Country Office and UNDP Papua New Guinea.
Strengthening Aid Coordination Management Capacities
The purpose of the Strengthening Aid Coordination and Management Capacities Project is to build the organizational and management/staff capabilities and functions of the Aid Coordination and Management Division (ACMD) of the Department for National Planning and Rural Development (DNPRD) so that the Government of Papua New Guinea has a working, transparent and effective aid coordination, management and delivery system. Such strengthening will help PNG attract foreign assistance, use foreign assistance it is already receiving including increasing absorption as well as effectiveness, and assist in addressing key development objectives.
Application of GIS to Land-use Management in PNG: Remote Sensing Land Use Initiative
This project is aimed at providing open access for the people of Papua New Guinea to information about the status of land use in the country. It involves the production of spatial accounts of the land-use patterns across the country, thereby equipping those managing land assets with reliable data on which to base their decisions and activities.
