Contact Person(s): Fe Cabral fe.cabral@undp.org
Project Period: August 2002 - June 2003
Partners: National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) officials and staff from central, regional and provincial offices
Achievements
This project, completed in 2004, assisted the NCIP in increasing access of indigenous peoples(IPs) to ICT for information networking and advocacy. Through this project, NCIP were able to achieve the following:
- developed their own Information Systems Development Plan involving NCIP officials, Regional and Bureau representatives
- developed and launched their website and database, including e-network
- printed and disseminated training manual/handbook of operations for website development and management for NCIP use
- provided capacity building to NCIP staff in this area to equip the NCIP staff with necessary skills and knowledge to maintain and enhance NCIP information centre
- paved the way for the establishment of NCIP Resource Center to house NCIP and other IP publications
Recognizing that IPs are among the marginalized sectors, this project has emphasized the need to bridge the digital divide to empower the IPs to fully participate in governance processes and to make relevant indigenous peoples' information available to stakeholders willing to assist IPs in its quest for improved quality of life.
