- The overall goal of this project is to effectively root gender mainstreaming in government decision-making structures and processes in the Planning and Development Division and Departments.

Policy Support on e-Commerce and Development
- The Government of Pakistan has recognized IT as one of the major sources of economic growth in its national IT Policy and Plan of Action. An International Conference on e-Commerce was organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) in collaboration with UNDP and UNCTAD, in which, 300 participants from within and outside country participated.

Feasibility Support to Establish Virtual University
- UNDP supported Feasibility Study to establish a Virtual University and submitted it to the Government of Pakistan. The University is now in full operations.

- The purpose of the programme is to assist the Provincial Government of North East Frontier Province (NWFP) in undertaking institutional reforms.

Crime Management System at Citizen Policy Liaison Committee
- The functions of Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) require compilation, analysis and dissemination of diverse information. A distributed information management infrastructure was established with extensive and populated databases designed for descriptive and temporal data. The spatial component, however, was missing.In this background UNDP extended its technical and financial support to CPLC for implementation of a Spatial Crime Analysis System in Karachi, Pakistan.

GIS and MIS to Strengthen Local Government Planning Capacity / Services Delivery
- The Support to Devolution Reform in Balochistan (SDRB) project is designed to provide effective and legal policy framework for decentralized authority and management in Balochistan. The project include development of a web portal for the Local Government Commission; development and deployment of a standardized district-based Management Information System; establishment of District Management Information Centres (DMICs) to facilitate decentralized planning, management and monitoring at district level and radio programmes on local government-related issues.

Development of Citizen Information Systems and Network
- The project aims to support (i) comprehensive mapping, monitoring/evaluation systems at the national level that allow for citizen participation in implementing projects and in facilitating transparency in public sector and (ii) information systems to facilitate flow of information to and from all levels of legislative bodies - lateral, vertical, and oblique flows encompassing Senate, national and provincial assemblies.

ICT to Support Democratic Electoral Process in Pakistan
- The project aims at enhancing access to information through timely dissemination of accurate information to the public and media through the Election Commission of Pakistan website; improved public information campaigns; and development/dissemination of radio and television programmes and documentaries on electoral issues.

- This project aims to facilitate the commercial-scale exploitation of renewable energy for power production in Pakistan.

ICT Systems to Assess Vehicle Emissions
- Fuel Efficiency in the Road Transport Sector Project has promoted computerized instrumented tune-ups of motor vehicles throughout the country. The state-of-the-art machines installed by the project have had a large-scale demonstarional effect with over 400 computerized tune-up stations established in the private sector. The overall objective of the project is to reduce green house gas emissions due to ineffecient fuel consumption in the motor vehicles.

GIS to Boost Capacity for Conserving Biodiversity, Demarcating Globally Significant Wetlands and Natural Resources Management
- The Pakistan Wetlands Project aims to promote the conservation of freshwater and marine wetlands and the associated globally important biodiversity in Pakistan.

ICT Strategy and Implementation
- Assessment of current ICT services and facilities and identification of strategic partnerships for interventions targeting the poor; multi-stakeholder workshops on mechanisms for the achievement and updating of National ICT Strategy objectives; with participation of Government, national stakeholders, and international entities; and the use of an integrated approach in the areas of policy, infrastructure, human resources, enterprise and contents and applications -- as specified in the Digital Opportunities Initiative (DOI).
