The Government of Pakistan has recognized IT as one of the major sources of economic growth in its national IT Policy and Plan of Action. An International Conference on e-Commerce was organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) in collaboration with UNDP and UNCTAD, in which, 300 participants from within and outside country participated.

The purpose of the Conference was to mobilize national and international expertise and to assess investor`s interest in the area of e-commerce in Pakistan, as well as to take stock of current initiatives and opportunities for action and investment in the ICT and e-commerce sectors. The project follow-up activities include technical support to the Government of Pakistan in development of e-commerce policy / strategy. The government would also be provided technical support in the areas such as, Physical Key Infrastructure (PKI).
