Crime Management System at Citizen Policy Liaison Committee

Page Tools
The functions of Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) require compilation, analysis and dissemination of diverse information. A distributed information management infrastructure was established with extensive and populated databases designed for descriptive and temporal data. The spatial component, however, was missing. In this background UNDP extended its technical and financial support to CPLC for implementation of a Spatial Crime Analysis System in Karachi, Pakistan.

Project Period: Project ended in 2002

Partner(s): Citizen Policy Liaison Committee

Achievements

The project comprised two phases. Phase I focused on development of a street level geographic database of Karachi that would support the Crime Analysis System to be prepared in Phase II.

The system is now functional and is assisting the police and other agencies. It comprises several components including: Vehicle Soft, FIR Soft and Jail Soft.

In addition, following the devolution programme of the government, the digitized maps initially developed were demarcated as per the new setup to assist the local government, police and other law enforcement agencies.

The system can be replicated in other cities of Pakistan given adequate support.
