Project Period: 2005 - 2008
Partner(s): AEDB, MoE, local governments, private sector, IFIs
The project focuses on establishing a wind power industry in the country based on internationally proven technology as an economically viable and sustainable option by removing policy, institutional, regulatory, fiscal and technical barriers to private investments in wind farms and their integration into the power grid, especially in remote areas where alternative generation options are limited and/or costly.
The use of ICT for wind mapping at the national level would provide scientific basis for sustainable development in Pakistan through the adoption of cleaner alternative energy resources that are not dependent on imported fossil fuels and help accelerate the development of remote, economically distressed areas.
Achievements
The removal of policy, institutional, regulatory, and fiscal barriers to commercial-scale investments in wind power projects through active collaboration with the Government of Pakistan and relevant stakeholders in developing instruments and capacities for attracting and facilitating the construction and operation of wind farm Independent Power Producers in Pakistan.
